On Monday 10 August the children and educators from the Teddy Bears Playroom went on a walking excursion to Parkes Niola Nursing Home to visit the residents and sing them some songs. Bronwyn (the Niola “Events” Co-ordinator) warmly welcomed us upon our arrival and all the residents were patiently waiting for our performance.
The Teddy Bears children sang a number of songs, including the hip hop version of “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star”. We also sang “Happy Birthday” to one of the residents, Tom! The Teddy Bears had made Tom a birthday card which they presented to him. Tom then delighted everyone by making a “thank you” speech.
The Teddy Bears shared one of their favourite picture books, “The Bear Under The Stairs”. The residents and children also sang some songs together, spent time chatting and sharing stories and also exchanged gifts of artwork that the Niola residents and children had prepared for each other!
Everyone enjoyed this very special visit and in Term 4 the Bananas in Pyjamas children will be going to see our Niola friends once again.
The above colourful clown canvas was gifted to Parkes Early Childhood Centre by the Niola residents.
